i have a 94 MX5 which I am now trying to enjoy it as a drifting car to
some minimal success...
anyone else here has the same make / interest ?
and also, anyone else who knows of a good place to do drifting ? I do try
to do some runs at glen marie industrial estate as well as that huge
empty car parks outside sepang tracks. but the road conditions there are
at best mediocre.
so far, i have found that its really not easy to get the tail out. for
one thing, the lack of power on the mazda powertrain necesitate a high
entry speed, which will kind of makes it difficult.
anyway, look forward to hearing from anyone with the same car out there.

The MX5 is a relatively easy car to drift. Due to its relatively lack of
power and torque, it is wise to keep to the original 14" wheels, which
also makes it easier to drift the car.
The trick to 'drifting' a relatively underpowered car, is to have a higher
than normal entry speed to initiate the drift. You can try a scandinavian
flick, or lift off oversteer techniques to get the tail loose. Do not rely
on applying power to break traction on the rear wheels, as it will not
happen, at least in the dry, but is very possible in the wet.

I was thinking of getting this car as a fun/weekend car. And coincidently,
a cousin's friend is offering his car for sale. Red MX5, 1993, soft and
hard top, RM35k neg. Fits my budget well. Going to view this 15 year old
car in 4 days time.
I've visited www.mx5my.com too. What are the things to look for? I'm not
into performance here. Kind reply asap is much appreciated considering
this thread is quite old ler.
