Why is it so hard to find a place to service a car?
For oil changes and the like, any mechanic you trust will do.
More advanced work is a difficult one. When all else fails, go to a certified
toyota workshop.

"Major Repair" = What?
Please, be more specific.
Major repair = blowing your engine?
Does that happen very often?
If all else fails, go to TRD.
Also, his Caldina engine is a standard toyota. Not a super modified,
rally spec engine that requires the specialised skills of tuner garages
with mechanics with 20+ years experience in rally.

there are a lot of people who are clueless about "new cars". they been feed with information that
"this is a special engine" requires "special" tools set, special diagnostic tools etc....(sales people
la, the culprits)
There are certain truth about the above statement if one refers to "bawah pokok/zing shed
mechanics".
i agree to a certain extend that there are some unscrupulous lot out there who just about makes
a fast buck. but there are those who are also just as competent (some who spend a good number
of years in larger companies)
There are however some new "young" ones who sprung up like mushrooms in a certain
"happening" tuner area. some apprentice after spending 3-4 years decide to open their own
mechanic shop unfortunately help elevate those fears.
truth is most people are sceptic when it comes to modern cars that uses diagnostic tools to
check codes. there are some shops that uses "china-made" OEM diagnostic tools or some eastern
bloc quality tools (for conti makes) .
I know my mechanic had one "china-made" diagnostic tool but since had purchased a toyota
diagnostic tool to facilitate work & to allay fears from customers. (the only other independent
shop i know who has the original toyota diagnostic tool is TOMS bangsar.)
i believe eventually more independent shops will buy proper diagnostic tools. it expensive i
heard hence these shops arent the cheapest around

servicing for any japanese cars are the same. Change engine oil and
filter......including cleaning of engine airfilter can be done by any ah
beng shops......no specialized skills required......just need the right
tools and dirty their hands....thats all
Then.......changing of ATF can also be done by most ah beng
shops....unless u are doing the full change...that is bleeding out all
the ATF...flush.....then pump in new ATF.....this required a machine to
do the job.....that not many shops have....
For caldina......changing of LSD oil can also be done by most ah beng
shops.....just need to get the right grade of LSD.....
As for parts....some parts are used by other toyota cars....example the
brake pad for caldina is same as Alphard...other parts such as engine
belt and v belt can be easily found at spare part shops. Just need to
show them the right part numbers.....engine parts will be a bit tough to
get....so u gotta round those potong shops very frequently....if u dont
mind paying for new parts......then u can look for wing hin and
toms....they dont carry the parts...but they can bring in for u from
Japan........
As for diagnostic tools....most reputable regular service workshop have
the tools....the can do a diagnostic for you should u want to...but its
not necessary unless there are some problems with the engines and
sensors........
so why worry......and its not difficult to service the caldina.....
