full coilcovers teinHA + anti roll bars for MRS runs under RM10K.

getting to where TPS car will of course be in the region of RM35K in total (in malaysia i've
calculated).

now the icing to the setup will be the new developments of SC on the 2ZZ . very tempting.
the S2 elise running it is already scoring big huge numbers

i sorry of hijacking haha thread to where it is going. it is prbably no reflection to real world MR-S
here in malaysia because the target market is different.

Koolspyda,

nope. I'm FR sort of person. I love the sharp crisp feedback. Though my
car sucks in the suspension department at the moment due to age - its a
really really old (20 years) car and I would be lucky to have 200RWHP. Go
figure. But its what I could afford without selling internal organs and I
love its looks.

Evos are out of my budget but I dont really fancy owning one anyway. They
are fast, but they dont have the personality I look for. No disrespect
though, when an Evo comes up behind me on the highway, I give way. Then
again, I always give way to any nut driving faster than me on the highway.

I loved the TPS MRS. But you're right, there are faster. I havent seen
the american touge shows and am not familiar with the SC MRS but damn, the
MRS should have the Celica motor. If only we would get the TPS tuned,
8700rpms redline MRS, I wouldnt mind selling a kidney or two to get one.

be careful what you wish for. hehehe

granted the whole MR-S community wanted the 2ZZ as an option. but yota figured otherwise. In
their project "Genesis" (prior the Scion entry to US). both celica & MR-S were intended to swoop
the "younger" market audience in US. The US spyder community was enlighten of this FYEO
"project genesis" by a fellow spyder owner who had access (ad agency) the some classified
marketing enlightenment. (Of course he broke his silence after it was all clear to do so (4years
later, in which the SCION project had already then taken off)). I even have the marketing video
clip where a retired mario andetti was used as a marketing spokesperson)

Fact was, toyota knew they were going to sell in low number for the MR-S (but they had higher
hopes for celica volume) . Even before selling the MRS in US, they had a quota of only 5000 cars
allocated for US. (first 2 years the numbers broke 7000). They sold at base price of MRSP USD
25K from one standard offering model (unlike japan 3 different specs base: "B", "S" & "V").

The intended basis was to study if a nimble sports car would be succesful with intention of
allowing TRD & other aftermarket to supply the goodies for it.

Clearly the above USD 20K price is well above the "younger" target audience. It then took it toll in
2003 when numbers fell below 5000 for the first time. As you can verify the SCION cars in US are
ALL below USD20K & are hugely successful the the younger market audience, together with the
knowleged gained of styling, marketing, etc. Project "Genesis" was part fact-finding for toyota.
SCION Xa, Xb & Tc car platform were in part for Yota succesful quest in US.

They are a whole lot more then the condensed version put here but i cant be boreing everyone.

8700rpm ? how about hitting 9000prm with titanium set of valves/springs, standalone ECU, 6
speed, ported head, ceramic coated exhaust manifold, sounds??

I not selling my kidneys if i can have that.

part-of-the-fun la)

i cant wait for my tweeking to be underway, unfortunately patience to sourcing the right stuffs is
time consuming.

Part of being a car enthusiast. Our cars are sometimes our manhood. I
know a girl who drives an Evo who will always argue that the Evo is the
best car in the world. Except for it looking so damn ugly, I am tempted
to agree with her. Then again, all Evo owners are like that - LanEvo is
like a religion.

I'm saving money to make the purchases required for my car. Even simple
things like my radiator and oil cooler needs to be up-rated not yet
talking about suspension. Sigh... waiting waiting waiting.

you are probably the eleventh person to say that to me. I cant find a reason why majority EVO
owners cannnot fathom that there could just be "equally" competitive nature rides out there
given the circumtances.

Some owners are OK. I know of some SG EVO owners who have butter their rides with almost
everything you can think of mods & showed it on sepang track. probably running neck to neck
with scooby & a highly modded S15.

I dont deny they were fast. really fast. The chap swears by his $$$ specially installed apexi
radiator on top of all his mod bits. (in total enough to buy another evo btw)

Regarding Lancer Evolution and the reference to religion, the reason is
simple.

During Mitsubishi's WRC venture with Tommi Makinen, the LanEvo has proven
to be a worldclass, kick arse car. On tarmac rallies in Japan, few cars
have shown more persuasive performance than the Evo when it came out.

Remember when Godzilla came out? R32 blew almost all other cars out of
the water with its phenomenal power and road holding - never mind it
understeered like mad, the end result was that the average joe driving one
could and would take on any sports car of the time and spank them both
ways to Sunday.

However you cut it, AWD cars are easy to drive, easy to go fast and, with
the R32 (ATTESA-ETS) and LanEvo 6 (AYC, ACD, ETC.) onwards, possess so
many mechanical jingles and so much CPU power that the car could drive
itself. It would take a monumental idiot to crash an Evo 7 and above.
LanEvo is "better" than the GTRs in the sole reason that they are lighter
and thus, "faster". Note subjectivity of all this.

LanEvo and Subaru WRX are considered to be on a level that is a notch
above the FR sportscar. In a battle between average joes, the guy in the
AWD will win. People know this - they may not understand but they know
its freaking fast. AWD has superior handling in all weather conditions,
superior traction, and superior ability to put power down. Off the line
and out of the corner, AWD rules.

Well, its all cool for the AWD until the ultra lightweight sportscar comes
along :) Ariel Atom anyone? But the Atom is more like a joke than a real
car.

But back to the MRS. A guy buys an MRS is a guy who likes zipping around
in a lightweight roadster with the wind in his hair. Its a fun car to
drive - I wont say a pleasure as the 6 speed manual is rather tight in
gearing even though I do enjoy changing gears.

thanks abuga for correcting the (AYC) -- when i mistaken it for YAWS (where possibilty did i
come out with this term??)

there is never in question the price one pays for an EVO or scobby. The kinds of mechanical
jingles (as you put it) will put it as if ones in a small aircraft. Well, looks like i sit back & allow
myself to be amaze by the EVOs/Scoobies gizmos as they run by me.

anyway for those who wanted to know the gearings for the MR-S;
6 speed MR-S gearing
First 3.166
Second 1.904
Third 1.392
Fourth 1.031
Fifth 0.815
Sixth 0.725

5 speed MR-S gearing
First 3.17
Second 1.90
Third 1.39
Fourth 1.03
Fifth 0.082

YAWS - maybe it was originally called that in the GTO? I read somewhere
that all the mechanical toys that mitsu made were in the GTO first.

That is the gearing for the MRS? I'll take the 6 speed thank you very
much.

The balance of cars is different for Malaysians because of price and
availability. I make it sound as if the Evo and scooby are all
conquering. They are, up to a point.
