I love the AE86 just as much as the next guy, but isn`t RM30K too much to pay for a 1984 car??
The AE86 is a sporty Japanese 2 door car. It is not a Lotus or a Ferrari.

anyone thinks gti is worth 70k brand new?
some people willing to fork out 10k on audio system,
some people would rather spend that on exterior mods
and some would spend them on performance.
its all based on individual preference.

Dear nickgomez..
You must be clear for what`s the purpose of buying a so called 1984 car.And what makes u love AE86 that much..? There are many AE86 version, for example GT-APEX (2 or 3 doors), GTV and GT... earlier batch and later batch. Which one is yours..? If your intention is to "OWN" one, then may just go ahead. But to get one for performance driving ( drift like Initial-D )..think twice then..
Piece of advise, the orginal specification of AE86 (4A-GEU at 130PS/6600RPM and 15.2KGM/5200RPM) wouldn`t serve you better advantages over the newer performance cars around nowadays, ie MIVEC, V-TECH, VVT, 4G6x, 4G9x....unless u got your very own ideas how to modify it..and remember to get yourself a LSD if u wanna drift..
P/s : it is ideal to have 1 anyway :)

it depend on whether u really like the car or not.it`s not really powerful compare to the cars nowdays, but u can fit a 20v inside and had it modded.the AE86 is a good and balanced car and the chassis is stiff enuff, it`s popular in japan becos of this.i`ll go for it if i can find one cos i really like the car, i`m looking for one of these myself too.

Its so valueble due to the car is FR. Japanese like to drift and they would appreciate FR more than FF. Other than that, due to AE86 have strongh body structure and light in weight, it 4AGE can afford to make the car drift perfectly. :> Saw it with my real eye ......... in VCD ! :>

The AE86, being a FR car, is very good for learning car control. Although I had learnt much of car control in a Ford Escort, with the AE86, I had plenty of power to gpo sideways round junctions in DRY conditions. It has a very well balanced chassis and as someone said, a strong and stiff body. If you remember, the Toyota team in Malaysia successfully used the AE86 during the 1980s and could whack even bigger cars like the Nissan 240RS.
However, first 4A-GE didn`t have a very strong block. Tachi of TOMs told me that they tried to push the redline and output and the blocks used to crack too quickly.
I know it well because I owned a new one in the mid-1980s and only parted with it because of the recession and could not afford to pay H-P.
But my girlfriend bought it over and re-financed it and she drove it so hard that she had an amazing accident with it that reshaped it into a FX! She liked the car so much she bought another one second-hand but that got stolen after about 6 months.
