Hello,
I had the pleasure to test drive Subaru`s 2005 Legacy Turbo 2 weekends
ago. It was done in an enclosed course. First off, this new design is
sleek! It has nice 5spoke 17" rubbers. The car is moving upscale. I
believe Subaru is trying to target Audi and BMW owners. Anyways I test
drove the top of the line model that came with leather and other doo-dads.
The 2005 model gets the cool STi electroluminscent gauges that swings up
upon startup. Very neat. It has a 3-spoke MOMO leather steering wheel
(smaller than mine!) which was quite meaty. This one also has shift
buttons on the wheel too. Although I didn`t find it too useful under
spirited driving conditions especially when I`m shuffling the steering
wheel in tight corners.
BTW, this model is not the usual 2.0 twin turbo engined version but
rather a 2.5l single turbo version with 250hp/250tq. Off the line there`s
still a bit of a lag, but once it gets going, it`s quick! One thing that
really impressed me are the brakes. THey bite wonderfully under hard
braking conditions. Of course it`s not as tossable as my `tuned`
suspension impreza, but for a car weighing almost 1500kg, it`s quite good.
I`m impressed overall with this new Legacy. Didn`t try the wagon version.
No Bilstein shocks. Am awaiting the STi Legacy to debut in Detroit next
year!
It`s not even that expensive too. A base Legacy Turbo with cloth seats
is
slightly more than a WRX. And it comes with more power and features. My
wife is hinting me to trade up. Something about better fit with a baby-
seat than my car! LOL!
