Hi all,

Need an honest opinion on getting the 147 2.0 TS 01 model as compared to
a E46 325 01 model. Is it true dat Alfa cars are majorly in the workshop
and hence cost more to maintain then a BMW?

firstly, ur asking in an alfa forum. what do u think the response will
be? ;)

secondly, the 147 doesnt compete against the 325i, it goes head-on
against the 1-series.

but in answer to ur question, no i dont think the alfas require any more
maintenance than a bimmer of the same age. the selespeeds systems tend to
be a bit problematic, but then again so is the SMG.

the bimmer is better put together, but the alfas are more fun. nett nett,
i think alfa parts are cheaper but i would encourage you to do your own
comparisons.

performance wise, 147 2.0TS selespeed is about on par with the 325i auto
below 210kph. 156 2.5V6 auto will blow a 325i auto out of the water. so
that shd tell you something about the alfas.

good luck! :)

E46 had many issues on gearbox issues. I've ridden in both of them and
E46 325's interior build is ok, but build (materials used) is not good.
cheap plastics and switchgear. AR 147 had one of the best interiors.

COST OF MAINTENANCE IS ABOUT THE SAME.

Opportunity cost of maintenance (time spent waiting for parts), AR would
take longer as parts are scarce compared to BMW, but hey, this model is
still carried by SDAI, no worries.

Why don't you get a 156 instead? that would be a much better choice than
both.

I have just bought a 2002 Alfa Romeo 147 2.0 Selespeed. The car has just
clocked up 50,000 kilometers. It is a fun car to drive and so far I have
no complaint over the car. The only litle problem that I am facing is
that the radio could not be onn. This is due to missing coding number. Is
there anybody in here could advice me how to get the code number for the
radio. I wish to maintain the set as it is an original set came together
with the car. Hope to here from the fans.Tq.

Hi amy75,
Ever thought of getting rid of your old bella? I can see you are in love
with the new bella already. No pun intended. I'm only pulling your leg.

amy75, the first place i'd check is with the previous owner. however, if
like mine, he/she has lost the radio code card, dont fret.

head over to Sime Darby Auto Italia (in section 13 now) give them your
chassis number and they will be able to order the code card for you
direct from italy.

did u also get ur key and alarm code cards? check with the for those too.
u need those if u ever need to reprogram a key or start the car if
there's a problem with ur immobilizer.

nine2five4,
Nope, I am not going to let go my 75. It is almost a classic car now and
too it is very difficult to find a good one around nowaday. The 147 would
be most of the times used by my daughter since she likes alfa car so
much. She was the one who used the 75 when she was in the University.Tq.

Redd,
Thanks for the info. The previous owner has not had the code card with
him. He had tried through Singapore agent to contact the Italian but was
successful. I may try to contact the Auto Italia soon. If don't mind,
could let me know where about in section 13 - any good landmark as a
guide.Tq.
