Hi guys......
I think i posted this before but if I have I either didn't get any answers or have forgotten them so
here goes again. I have very badly faded wood trim on my car. It is solid wood a good 0.25
inches thick (so we're not dealing with a veneer) which was originally varnished so that the grainy
texture of the wood was retained.
The problem is that the varnish has faded and in some spots flaked off. I guess the obvious thing
to do would be to sand down the wood and re-varnish so here's the question:- what's a good
grade of sandpaper to use on wood and what sort of varnish should I use in a car? I'm guessing
ordinary furniture varnish wouldn't do it......
Ideas, anybody?
Cheers

Hi dude,
I cant answer ur question specifically but i do know of cabideco does
this interior furnishing thingy. Quite impressive and quite expensive
too. I too havea wood trim. thinking of changing it to carbon fibre. but
and i have seen how they changed a wood trim to something akin to carbo
fibre. they claimed that after the treatment, it wont fade or peel
off..do check them out.

my art furniture fren suggests that you can lightly sand off the rest of
the varnish with 1000 grit sandpaper before revarnishing. he is unable to
give an answer as to wot varnish is suitable... but he did mention you
might get high sniffing fumes from furniture varnish... hehehehe...
or... you cud just go wid the unvarnished look.. apparently, unvarnished
wood is the height of sophistication and have showed up on a couple of key
products at the 2005 North American International Auto Show.

Hi weezy......
Well I dunno about unvarnished- a car cabin is a pretty dirty place you know. I guess I'll wait for
Advocates to get back to me or do some experimenting with whatever varnish I can find at ACE or
some such.
