Hi folks,
I'm sure this question has been asked a lot, but I couldn't find any
results. My question is really simple, how long do you usually leave the
wax on the car before you buff it off? Most product instruction says
"leave on until haze appears". Do you immediately buff it off or wait
longer than that? If so, what are the consequences if you wait longer?
Say 1-2 hours? :)
Thanks!

Usually after I wax 1 section of a car, I'll leave it and go on to the
2nd
section.. then after I finish waxing the 2nd section I'll go back to the
1st section to buff it off.. after buffing it off I'll go to the 2nd
section and buff that off. So far so good..
As for leaving it for 1-2 hours.. I dunno worr.. but I do know one thing
lar.. don't leave it overnight! Coz there was once I forgot to buff off a
section of my bumper.. luckily it's on my bumper nya ar.. coz the next
day
it turned rock-solid and I could't get it off! No matter how hard I try
to
rub it off osso it wouldn't come off.. then I stopped trying coz scared
later I scratch my car or peel off the paint or smth.. so I just waited
for it to slowly come off lor

That sounds about rite :P Just not sure what will happen to the paint if
the wax is left to dry and harden like you said. I've a friend who waxes
the entire car and leaves it to dry/harden for about 2-3 hours. Then he
comes back and buffs it off. Wah lau... Scary.

the question is quite subjective...it depends on what brand of wax you
use.
previously i was using Simonize Diamond Liquid....water base, but very
effective, good results, easy to apply and remove and does not leave
stains. since it is a water base, it will take only few minutes to get
hazy. nice wax...but couldn't find it anymore.

He's using Kitt. I'm sure all types of wax would get hazy after a while.
But what happens if it's left on for too long?

Car waxing technique?
Right hand with the applicator and wax, then apply in an arcing motion.
Followed by the left hand with a polishing cloth in a similar arcing
motion. In the words of Mr Miyagi..
WAX ON, WAX OFF... WAX ON, WAX OFF...
Now, want me to tell you how to 'PAINT THE FENCE'? Hehehe...

bfs621 - DUH!!!
nuggyn, got....but depends, most of the time will only use clay bars to
remove dirt & clean the surface area properly before a heavy
polishing/cutting job.
BTW, if anyone is interested in attending a Car Detailing Clinic
organized by MG - location is in Glenmarie, Shah Alam on this Saturday
17/7/04 from 10am till 2pm. Light lunch will be served. Pls call me for
details.

Ya lah.... also me and AG. Difficult to disassociate yourself from the
products you use huh?
Anyhoo to answer the actual question I think when it comes to wax then
there is no
consequence of leaving it on for as many hours as you like so long as it
doesn't BAKE on
(e.g. if it has left to dry in direct sun) in which case you're well
buggered and the only
answer is KEC and his wet sander or a respray!!!
Cheers

Hehehe...

Ya lah.... also me and AG.
Cheers

Hi folks,
I'm sure this question has been asked a lot, but I couldn't find any

Pls call me for
details.

Ahhhh... so the answer to the immortal question "Do we shag now or shag
later?" is
definately "later" then huh?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh and HotRod..... by and large I wouldn`t recommend and of the
errr.. "affordable"
polishes/waxes. They tend to be abrasive i.e. the cut into your paint
each time you use it.
Go for something a little better- stuff that starts at about RM60 and
maintain it with a good
shampoo every time you wash. You`ll find you need to polish so rarely
that the RM60+
polish/wax isn`t all that expensive after all!
The general consensus here seems to be Zaino Bros, Meguair`s or AutoGlym
will be fine. If
you want something permanent go for the polymer sealants- check out the
polymer sealant
thread for details, pros and cons.
Cheers

Danke Schoen, Herr Karl.
At last, someone who believes in polishing a new car. I¡¯ve been itching
to polish it but was a bit wary because I was advised by a few people
that
I was supposed to let the new paint harden first. My car spends 7 days a
week in the sun, so it should be okay by now. Besides, I¡¯ve got lots of
light scratches on my bonnet begging for removal/disguise (courtesy of
good ol¡¯car wash boys ). I totally agree with you on the quality of
OE paint. Sucks big time & even the spraying is usually Scheizer! What I
don¡¯t understand is how new cars (including mine) come complete with
swirl marks. Means that they`ve been washed before reaching the showroom,
right? Most probably, but one wash and its that bad (visible)?
Will give polishing a shot soon as I can find the time, albeit with light
hand pressure to gauge if there`s any damage. I`ll use your tip on the
panel inspection, thanks. Just one question. Is it important to get use
metallic polish for metallic paint (if there is such a product)?
Gott in Himmel! The detailing stuff you¡¯re talking about is scary, man.
Good thing I¡¯m not that ambitious. Thanks very much for the input.
ToDRavidood,
Thanks for your advise on the product range. You¡¯re right, makes sense
in
the long run. Maybe I can tag along with you & pick up some pointers next
time you`re shopping here in Penang, huh?
P.S. AutoGlym is opening some kind of supply/service center at Makro in
Sg. Dua soon. Will keep you posted.
You too, Gary. Kamsiahluu. Your logic makes sense.
Cheers to All,

Hi HotRod, pertaining to your questions:-
1. Though you may have bought a new car, then again ask the question on
how long has your car been in storage? Can you be certain that your new
car has got a fresh coat of ow. I\'èj X•X•
