my 2cents worth .....

Guys, while trying to solve your "klok klok" and trying to reproduce the
sounds, test driving around etc etc... , u might wanna check how well the
car handles the following situations...

(1) Recovering from sharp turn (does your car ROLLL?) especially after an
emergency manuver to avoid an obstacle eg; or while taking corners
ED : yes some bodyroll if u take a very2x sharp turn, but most cars do
unless u hv anti-roll bars at the bottom or anti-roll cage . but w vsa
there is no oversteering, or rather backside sway off.

but more important to note - tis is a very composed car whenever u try
to swerve the car violently but do becareful not to do tis too often w
full passenger load cos the suspension will bottom up.

(2) Does your car jump off position (sideways) when taking corner with a
dips/small holes/gaps/irregularities on the road?
Ed : no. VSA does work. u can "hear" the tyres screeching at times trying
to find grip.

(3) Has anyone drove up Genting and drive down.. did your ABS function?
At what speed? How is the braking power like? Good?
ED : abs does work . but hv not gone up genting stretch yet but hv been
speeding along bangsar hill side (fr hospital pantai side) & damansara
road between eastin & semantan.

(4) How do you find your auto transmission gear change while driving up
Genting? Does the 2 only stick at 2, or does it shift down to 1? How long
does your 2 remain before it switch up to 3? Is there enough power uphill
at 3? Can u feel the power coming.. but just didn't come? (like power is
there but not there, ahahhaha crappy transmission)
Ed : very smooth transmission so far.

I just don't understand why HM organize the journalists test drive on
flat highways for the Civic launch, hahahhaa.....
ED : if u read the articles diligently, each of them really try to trash
the car around....save to say they r impressed w the car's composure.

Hi guys,

There is quite a number ppl in this forum are facing the "tak tak" noise
problem. I truly share the sentiments of those affected as I am also
facing the same problem. Honda has always been my brand of choice as the
current 1.8 S is the third civic I purchased. Honestly speaking, I am
greatly disappointed in this time purchase, in terms of SA attitude and
so called "gurantees & promises" and car conditions. There's no doubt
this new civic delivers in terms of performance and style but with
problems whereby no one is either not trying hard enough or with the "I
don't know" attitude..I wonder what's the purpose of being brand loyal or
spend bigger chunks of our money investing in something that no longer
promises much.

Some may comment that "oh, so you are the unlucky batch. Too bad lor, you
gotten yourself a problematic car. Aiyah!, new car will sure have
problems.etc..etc.."

Those are facts which I believe most of those affected ones will learn to
accept. The question is to what extreme? Personally, I feel that if I am
given a better explaination or at least some real effort is put in to
tackle the issue, i am more than willing to say, ok.. fine..
However, delays, excuses, "I don't know" kinda attitude can really get on
someone's nerve. Is it safe to keep on driving in that state? Will the
solution automatically pops up if some misfortunes were to happen on
road? No offence to those who feel Honda is still their ideal choice. I
don't know.. Can someone enlighten me? What makes Honda today?.. I am
sure their engineering and etc do play their part in popularising Honda..
So, I don;t see a reason why they can't figure out a solution, if not a
solution, maybe some directives to SCs nationwide to guide them on some
basic checking of the "Klok Klok" sound. I am sure this problem is not
new and many of us are indeed troubled over this.. If one can build a
car, why can't one fix the problem?? I may be wrong.. Perhaps HM is
really indeed putting their brains together to come out with a viable
solution.. how long? how true? As I hear from others, some faced similar
not identical problem with their previous version civic, crv and accord..
I am not putting much hope on it...Again, if I did offend anyone, pls.
accept my sincere apology, just a thought of what I think of HONDA.

Btw, for those who are facing the "tak tak or klok klok sound", have you
guys checked the gap distance between the tyre and fender on the driver
side? As I was checking for friction signs, I found out that it's
different from the left hand side.. How I measure was, with left hand
side the gap between the tyre and fender is roughly about 3 fingers while
with the driver side, I can't hardly fit my 3 fingers in.. I tested this
on a flat driveway of my house.. tested other cars on the same driveway
to make sure the driveway is perfect. Pls. kindly check and feedback. I
am not sure whether spring does play a factor in the "nuisance noise".

actually i noticed that gap doesnt seem consistent at times (also the
rough/springy absorbers like no more gas)... which makes me suspect
something is wrong with the shock absorbers... but when ask the Honda SC
to check...

"...where got problem?... everything okay wat... we drive (trash) your
car got no problem wat... where got? Next time service.. you bring come
your car back la... we check the suspension again... "

next service.. and the following service... i noticed oil leaking...

"...where got problem?... everything okay wat... we drive (trash) your
car (until half fuel tank gone) got no problem wat... where got? Next
time service.. you bring come your car back la... we check the suspension
again..."

...but i found oil leaking, i saw it myself...

"oh.. we check the absorbers already... we also open the shock absorbers
everything and the rubber seal is nothing wrong.. no oil leaking at
all..."

... then how do you explain the leaking oil from under the absorber's
rubber dust cap?....

"that oil somebody spray it there..."

...why would anyone want to spray it there? for what?

"... next service you bring the car back.. we check the absorber again
for you... now you just sign this service sheet.. ...sign... we not
charge you anything.. just sign ...to say we check it for you..."

bro frost, sori u hv so many problems.

my only advice, go to another SC (perhaps get a recommendation fr us here
depending on where u live) then write a formal complain to HM. by right
on the service sheet, u r suppose to state yr complains & indicate which
section of the car got problem.

if u r not happy w yr car after the service, u hv d right not to sign off
the service form... which i think u did. there is a difference btw
checking the car & u accept the car vs. fixing the problem. do be mindful
of tat & not be pressured or swayed since they say it is free. as long
under the 3yr warranty period, mechanical faults they cannot charge u for
it.

they said so to me, i think i will request to try one.
btw, JB SC told me they ordered rubber mounting(different type from
defective one). I am not sure is it the same one which already fixed on
mine.

Mine get softer and not so frequent just after the fix, but now the
condition is back like before, loud and happened quite often. fedup.

My SC tried to put in a few paper to fill in the gap of the mounting, it
works without the metal noise, but the vibration is strong so they took
it off already. <can confirm is mounting problem now.

I saw one Civic park @ City Square parking ground this morning, just
opposite my car, not sure is the owner come frmo this forum also.
thinking of discussing about this problem with him/her.

I hope that we can meet up someone from here with NO metal hitting noise
found from his/her car. Maybe we can have a short session to identify the
point.

got my nighthawk 1.8 on 8/5/2006
The SA told me mine is the third batch and shud be free from the "tak tak
sound"

1. Tyre sound very loud.
2. Can hear wind noise at the driver side when travel more than 100km/h
3. Alignment was out the very first day. Car keep going to the left if
not holding the steering. Sent for fixing to HONDA Panel Workshop(Wesak
Day, HONDA SC close). But still not satisfy.
4. Suspension – not comfort at all.
5. Steering noise – “kluk-kluk sound sometimes appeared when cornering on
sharp point.
6. The famous tak tak sound.
It is there guys!!!!!!! Front Right Driver side, when travel on hump
and whenever apply the brake.
The first 50km,no sound heard. But after that the disaster appeared.
Its getting louder as more mileage clock. Very irritating and not enjoy
driving at all. At this point i am very regret for not listening to all
the complaint regarding this tak-tak sound b4. I thought i might not be
among the unlucky owner. Actually after reading all the complains, I was
thinking to cancel the booking but I have already paid the deposit and
all due payment. Beside my wife was so excited about this car. So hv to
rely on my luck. This will be a lesson to me – do not rely on luck in
future. Especially for >100K car.
I used to own 2 Honda Civic and a Honda Accord before . Even all these
car were used car but they were more comfort than this new civic. I know
it is not fair to compare proton wira to the new civic, but to me this
civic is just slightly better than my wife 1.5 (A) 2001 Proton Wira. My
wife Wira never has mounting problem, only rattling noise at the
dashboard.
When I booked the car I have very high expectation on this car. 100K
considered a lot of money to me. As my first new Honda I expect it will
deliver better performance n quality compared to my previous Hondas. This
new car shud be less problem as ppl like me, dont have much time to spent
in workshop or SC to fix problems. My office policy,… if you spent more
than two hours per day on personal matter you shud take yr annual leave.
I just cant imagine how many days will cost me to take care for this new
civic considering for only one week old car it has already got so many
problems. Maybe I have to reserve the balance of my annual leave merely
for this civic. Hv apply leave for this coming Monday to take this civic
to SC. Hope theres a solution but very skeptical about it after reading
all the complaints that u hv to live with this tak-tak sound. Now I even
thinking to sell this car. Don’t mind to rugi a bit. Any idea what is the
best price possible?

This car has changed me completely. From a happy to a VERY UNHAPPY
person. Whenever I drive my new civic, I am no longer a calm person.
Very cepat temper one. But my wife is always be there to comfort me and
try all those sort of “bersabar attitude”.
My conclusion for this car ; this car is for the people who:
a. Don’t mind spending plenty of time at Service Center
b. Has less hearing sensitivity
c. Is very Calm and has no high blood pressure
d. Don’t mind for comfort.
To :
jackychua/Johor ,hong2166 ,ehl99 ,chunwei ,sportgreen/Johor ,www999 ,/twot
ribez, now I am suffering the pain too !!! and sorry for not listening to
all of you.

Don't worry. SC should able to fixed "TAK TAK" noise but the metal
knocking sound when go over humd or thick yellow line at this moment.

Jack,

Sorry I can not reply your email due to security control in company
and my streamyx was down since last week till today, both stupid TM and
TMNET blame each others problem...THIS IS MALAYSIA ...not choise. You
should be the one change the mouting in JB SC? They seem not willing
change the mouting to me becos useless as they claimed.

MY QUESTION IS: WHY THIS PROBLEM NOT AFFECT EVERYONE HERE IF THIS IS
MOUNTING PROBLEM?

It's good idea to get together & test drive each other cars to hv the
feel on this tak-tak sound. During the 1st TT at A&W PJ (Only 3 of us
attended), none of us having this problem even one of us trying hard
going thru yellow strip & holes but yet still no sound...

For me, there is no tak-tak sound going thru uneven and yellow strip
HOWEVER I did hear thub-thub sound more to the fr suspension side going
thru or running >60km/h on a deep uneven road/holes. This for me probably
due to the soft suspension on 1.8 which is similar to my old citroen ZX
However this Thud-thud sound is much-much less compare to kung-kung thung-
thung sound from the soft suspension of Citroen.

Probably this is the result of the comfortable & continental ride on this
Honda but at the expense of the minor sound....Need another TT to really
confirm on this...
