zygo, you can find more infor by searching the Net. . . so many models
and brands. Distance, effectiveness, etc.

There is not enough time to switch off. If only one car then the police
would know that the car have one. If many cars then they will be unable to
know which one.

Hi endurason,

Radar detectors can detect in both directions. Laser cameras can too but
more difficult due to the angle (the need to see the number plate) so they
usually set up for oncoming.

I used to detect X band and K band signals from as far as 1.5 Km away so
plenty of time to slow down. Only problem don`t know which direction.
Sadly, our mata-mata stopped using radar after there were some reports of
cops getting brain cancer from the usage of radar guns in California.

Now they use laser cameras. The effective range to detect laser is usually
no more than 500 m as our roads are not very straight by which time I can
see the camera before the detector picks it up. Moral of the story is to
keep your eyes peeled.

It is usually BS when they claim that they can detect radar detectors. Any
radar detector worth its salt has a shield to block out any leaks. You
will have to be passing very close to a radar gun (a few feet) for it to
pick up the leakage. When I was inexperienced years ago, I instinctively
hit the brakes when a signal was detected. That is what the cops look for.
They post spotters to spot this reaction when they use instant-on guns.
You have no defence to instant-on guns unless a car in front of you got
zapped. You just have to keep telling yourself never to touch the brakes.
Now with laser cameras, this fun is gone.

Hi jaylee, thanks for the information. So the mata mata will detect the
traffic coming towards him. I have a quit realiable way for detecting
speed trap without any of those gadgets way ahead of the speed trap and
it works pretty well so far. So far I got only one saman.

Hi endurasson,

Care to share your method?

I also have not got any saman before but I am chicken and set my autocruise
at 115 kph that's why.

There is one trap no detector can detect though. That is if the mata-mata
revert back to the old-fashioned stop-watch and walky-talky method.

Hi endurasoon,

You must be a very lucky guy.

Of course Malaysian drivers are a united lot and I have seen a lot of
headlights flashing. However, I have also seen a lot of flashing when I am
just one or two Km from a roadblock but nobody flashed 30 Km back where the
trap was. The radio range of the police these days can easily exceed 50
Km. I will not depend on flashing of headlights alone. I do not believe
no matter how united our drivers are that anybody would continue to flash
their headlights for 50 Km after a roadblock or be able to spot a trap 40
Km after a roadblock and be able to warn oncoming cars.

We need a more fail-safe method than just depending on luck.Big Smile

Hi jaylee, of course you are right that you can't just depend on this
method and i guess I have been luck all this while.

This is a fun topic a lot of the detectors doesn't work anyway so save
your money if it is 2005 model and deisgn it might only work for a few
months and the cops will bring out new technologhy and make the detectors
unless
If you were to get caught in Australia using a detector it is AUD$2000
fine for having one and another AUD$2000 for using it
Is it worth it, i don't think so myself.

The other thing about flashing your lights
some drivers did that here and we have cops actually setup their stop
sign when they hide in the bush see you flash your lights to inform on
coming cars they hit you with a fine of AUD$197 dollars and 2 points off
your licence i only flash after about 3 to 5 km after the radar to inform
other road users

Regards
Jerry

Australia. If there is one here I am sure suprise to hear that.
