The smart tunnel's main objectives is to alleviate major flood in KL. It
channels the water from gombak river basin to a temporary pond in south
KL. It can hold millions of cubic metres of water during heavy rainfall,
before the water can be discharge gardually back into the system. The
lenght of the tunnel if i am not mistaken is about 11-13 km. But there
are only about 2-3 km accessible for motorists.
The road tunnel is the idea of our previous PM. As the flood tunnel will
will be going through KL anyway, so why dont take the opportunity build a
road tunnel.
I myself is a bit skeptical whether it can ease traffic congestion, but
again, that is not the main objective of the tunnel. And the extra cost
of bulding the road tunnel was not bear by the govt instead by the
konsortium. In return, they will be allowed to charge toll, and road user
will have the option whether to use it or not.
Hopefully
1. No more flash floods in KL
2. Ease traffic congestion
3. The toll rate is acceptable
win-win-win situation.
Do u guys think that this is a fair deal?

its in operation comes all the not so rosy solutions...increased toll
charges, compensation, guaranteed pfofits blah blah blah....then they put
the agreements under OSA. Now if its a fair deal why use the OSA???
We can only decide whether its a fair deal or otherwise if all the
agreements are open to scrutiny by the public....If they need OSA to stop
public scrutiny then we can assume theres hanky panky or berat sebelah
agreement there............

then problems will start to come up again
as more and more people can afford to buy a car.
In Dubai their road is a 14 lanes freeway
7 up 7 down and flying smoothly nice i like that.

traffic. so is nothing to do with traffic jam or not jam ... why gorv
impost toll, so that can maintain this KL flood control system (if not who
going to pay the running cost).
buy one thing I feel that most of the people drive there very fast, didn't
they don't know the dangerous if drive high speed at tunnel ... sign board
already states 60km/j ....

money to do so. So they turn to crony company to build it. They then have
to figure out how they can pay for it and also make money out of it. With
a road, they can justify collecting tolls, even though the tunnel does
nothing to ease jams - it merely moves the bottleneck further down the
road.
So the SMART tunnel is anything but fair. It is just an excuse for crony
company to collect tolls to fund the project.
