flee,

you mentioned:
"Most (not all) motorcyclists pay scant regard to the
highway code - perhaps they don't even know that a
highway code exists. They don't stop at red traffic
lights, they u-turn anywhere they fancy, they overtake
on the left AND right, they climb kerbs, they ride in
the wrong direction on a one way street, they park
their bikes in between cars (even when there are motorcycle
parking lots vacant), the spew out blankets of
smoke, etc. etc."

You are right, I can see that most of the motorcyclist are from
the "species" you mentioned above. And you are right, NOT ALL
motorcyclists are like that. But why you still have this mindset of
being an anti-motorcyclist? Does this means that you anti me as
well??? Just to let you know, I'm not from the species you
mentioned......i don't do those silly and irresponsible stunts.
- I don't run redlight eventhough the street is clear....there are
times where I go home late at night and as you know, some of
the streets in KL will be pretty clear, sometimes no cars at all.
And I will still follow the traffic light.

- I don't zig zag through the traffic and I will make it a point that
I will follow the car in front as if I'm driving a car when the traffic
is moving. However, I know some drivers don't like me doing
that, they will flash or horn me. Come on lah, I'm paying a
RM200 road tax (for 2 wheels).....I don't know why they horn me,
I'm not hogging. And I will only selit in between cars when
there's a traffic jam (when the traffic is not moving).

- I don't ride on kerbs or ride against traffic. I'm not so dump to
do such thing.

- And my bike don't puff out blankets of smoke coz I'm riding a 4
stroke bike. Only 2 stroke bikes will smoke.

Do you know why I don't do silly things on the street? Because
I'm one of the few bikers who ride on the road with a responsible
attitude. Another reason is that I don't have the heart to get my
RM30,000 motorbike involve in accident. Big Smile

My point is, not all bikers are as idiotic as you think.

nuggyn,

I am very happy that you are not one of those morons!
In fact, ALL MOTORISTS should observe the law and not
just motor cyclists!

Anyway, I did not mean to convey that I am anti motor
cyclist in an active way, i.e go out and bash them or
condemn them! What I tend to do is to stay away from
motorcyclists for they usually mean trouble if they
are to close to your car! And when I see an accident I
would tend to think to myself - the motor cyclist
deserved to be knocked down...

Sorry, can't help feeling like that - seen too many
wayward motorcyclists in my time on KL's roads! The
only way my mindset can change is when the behaviour
of the majority of motor cyclists change...

Flee....

Yeah, I'm not one of those morons. Anyway, please remember
that eventhough the majority of bikers on the street are morons,
there are a group of minority (including me) who obliege the law.
Well, i must admit that I too can see that majority of them
doesn't know what is "traffic law and rules". And I really hate
seeing them beating the red light or move before the light turns
green just because the traffic from the opposite direction is
clear.....then what is the use of traffic light? Real idiots.....few
weeks ago, a car almost crashed into a motorcyclist in front of
Ampang Park......this bugger on the bike didn't wait for the light
to turn green and he misjudged his timing and the car from the
other direction had to apply emergency brake to avoid this
bugger. I was hoping that the bugger will learn from a bitter
lesson......too bad the car didn't hit him. Cruel? Well, some
people just don't learn.

And this evening, I was driving near Ampang Point and I was on
the middle lane and on the right lane in front of me was a
kapchai. This bastard didn't even look before changing to my
lane, he just swerved into my path and almost hit my front
fender. I got so pissed off that I blasted my horn...tell you, if
this bugger hit my car and fell, I will not stop to help him. Even if
I stop, I will walk over to him and say "Padan muka!".

Lots have been said about motorcyclist dangerous road
manners but most simply equate stupid antiques with
the machine rather than the person/rider. It is
important to recognise that a person don't simply do
the stupid stunt because he rides but because he
himself has got something wrong with him. Someone here
mentioned that when a rider graduated from m/bike, he
will still continue with his dangerous road manner
even though after he drives. You got it right here.

As has been mentioned by someone before (somewhere in
other forums) there is no road offence unique to
motorcyclist. You just name it. Park in the kerb? Well
the monstrous 4x4 really like doing this (pls, no
offence to the 4x4 owner). Squeeze btwn cars? When a
car (or other bigger vehicle for that matter) do it,
it is even more dangerous isn't it? Beating traffic
light? Hmmm...

Banning motorcycle from the roads in not the answer.
In fact, in indirect way, they actually lessen the
traffic. I know many people who have cars but prefer
to leave them at home when commuting to work. So for
those advocating banning of motorcycles, please be
prepared to get out earlier in the morning and go back
later in the evening when this is implemented.

Cheers.
