and no steep gradient (except at certain stretch). ECE is mostly on hilly
areas with a lot of crosswind. Also, it "seems" the road surface is quite
slippery. The gradient is steeper and the corners are sharper.
From my observation, it seems she is definitely going >110km/h before the
car skidded.
KM196 = I know this area between Maran & Gambang. This area +-20km is
accident prone.
Again, pls drive carefully.

Chew recovering, but may need op
By SIMON KHOO
KUANTAN: Women, Family and Community Development Ministry parliamentary
secretary Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun may have to undergo an operation for
shoulder injuries sustained in an accident on Sunday.
Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital director Dr Ardi Awang said Chew had been put
on drips and warded at the high dependency ward for observation.
“Her wound is still bleeding slightly and once it has stopped, we may have
to conduct an operation to correct her fractured collarbone.
"She is responding well to treatment and her condition has showed signs of
improvement. I can safely say she is on the way to recovery," he said when
met at the hospital after accompanying state exco member and Wanita Umno
chief Datuk Maznah Mazlan who visited Chew on Monday.
On Sunday, Chew and three other occupants escaped death after her car
skidded and crashed into a divider at the East Coast Highway near Maran.
Chew’s official car spun several times before she was thrown out of the
vehicle upon impact.
She was on the way to Kuantan to deliver aid to flood victims in Sungai
Lembing when the accident occurred at about 12.30pm at the KM 196 of the
highway.
Chew’s driver Mohd Yusri Yusuf was also warded for concussion and a cut in
the mouth.
The other two injured were Chew’s confidential secretary Chua Fong Ling and
MCA Crisis Relief Squad volunteer Steven Ho. Both received outpatient
treatment.

I also notice some superfast driver just slams on the brake at the slight
hints of bumps / danger etc....
total reaction, not take charge of the situation.
So, who was driving and how fast he/she was going? Fell asleep at the
wheel?

Karak-Lanchang-Temerloh-Kg. Awah. But after there, from Chenor onwards,
Maran, Sri Jaya, Gambang, Kuantan, the highway gets a bit twisty and hilly
+ sudden sharp corners. Also, you'll feel more lonely around KM180-220,
don't know why.

on the highway.”
See ? Like I said, obviously the car she was in, was speeding. The driver
hit a puddle of water, aqua-planed... and congratulations, another road
accident statistic for year 2007.

Mei Fun: I’m lucky to be alive
By SIMON KHOO
KUANTAN: “God has taught me a very valuable lesson. Value your life and do
not speed on the highway.”
This is what Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, still hooked up to drips and an
oxygen mask, told reporters who managed to pay her a brief visit.
The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry parliamentary
secretary said she was lucky to be alive after she injured her shoulder,
thigh and eyes.

Despite her pain, Chew asked reporters about the flood situation and about
affected residents in Sungai Lembing whom she was going to visit when the
accident happened.
“How are they now? Has the flood situation improved and assistance given?
“I would also like to thank all those who sent me SMSes and waited outside
my ward to visit me. I am feeling much better now. Thank you all for your
concern,” she whispered in a husky voice.
Chew said that after her recovery, she planned to raise problems affecting
the East Coast Highway.
On Sunday, Chew and three other occupants escaped death after their car
skidded and crashed into a divider at about 12.30pm at the 196th kilometre
of the highway near Maran.
Chew’s official car spun several times before she was thrown out of the
vehicle upon impact. Driver Mohd Yusri Yusuf was also warded for concussion
and a cut in the mouth.
The other two injured were Chew’s confidential secretary Chua Fong Ling and
MCA Crisis Relief Squad volunteer Steven Ho. Both received outpatient
treatment.
State exco member and Wanita Umno chief Datuk Maznah Mazlan was among the
first to visit Chew yesterday.
Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital director Dr Ardi Awang said Chew was on the
way to recovery.
She did not suffer internal bleeding, brain or lung damage.
“Her wound is still bleeding slightly and once it stops, we may have to
operate to correct her fractured collarbone.”
Mohd Yusri blamed a puddle of water on the highway for the accident.
“My boss and I were thrown out of the vehicle from the impact,” said the
father of six children, aged between four and 14.
Chua suffered only light injuries, and she helped Chew answered cellphone
calls and read out messages to her by her bedside.

Blame youself lah for driving too fast until you can't control the car!!!
So what if there's puddle rubble or bangkai gajah on the road!? You want
to drive fast, you must be able to control the car when it hits all these
things.
Itu tayar and suspension manu######erer had been doing their best to make
sure the tayar grips and don't throw the car when it hits puddle u know?

cute_boboi : I agreed with u that "you'll feel more lonely around KM180-
220, don't know why". Why? because you'd travelled half of the ECE (abt
200km if you travel from KL) and feel bored/sleepy, better stop and
take "five"...
Real sad news...my niece passed away with her friend in a car accident
last Oct 07, at KM183.1 ECE...reason being driver is sleepy & a split
second, terbabas and hit the divider..
