Wife arrived home to tell me she broke the car again!

Drivers door window was stuck down and wouldn't go back up.

She tried "pushing" the switch a few times [more likely belted the living daylights out of it]

I stripped the door to test the motor and it worked both up and down if 12 volts was applied directly [bypassing the switch]
- but I found a lot of little bits when I took the door skin off.

The switch had fallen apart inside the door panel - luckily all the springs, metal rocker pieces, plastic rods
and the bottom cover plate were all trapped between the door trim and the plastic dust sheet that is glued to the door.

I spent an hour or so figuring out how the switch goes back together - and gave it a little grease in a few spots, then put
everything back together.

It all seems OK for now - and if it happens again, I could rebuild the switch in a few minutes - as long as none of
the tiny parts don't get lost.

Anyone know if these switches are common with any other vehicles - or are they a "Proton S16 / SAGA specific item".

and if so - when was it manufactured? [ours is a 2010 model]

I have not received any recall notices from the West Australian Proton distributors
regarding switches being swapped for an upgraded version.

I am pretty sure the design of the switch in our S16 could be improved,
Inside each switch there is a pair of long very thin plastic rods which are spring loaded.

Each time you rock the switch backwards or forwards the plastic rods will flex and wear.
They ideally need better support inside the socket they slide into.

As a temporary fix, I greased the plastic rods and the metal rocker pieces they ride on.
With luck they will last until I find replacements [or improved switches]

If the switch was upgraded by Proton - this would have been sorted out.

mine has been working fine since 2008.
Never heard such problem before.

the mechanism is the same on my sister's perodua kenari (rebadged daihatsu move).in this case the small plastic rod broke and will sometimes stuck at full wind down or wind up position.
quite a costly replacement considering the module only have 3 switch.
