Alfa 146

I used to advertise my 146 1.6TS and later had to educate some callers
who were Alfa admirers but know very little about the cars. Had to
explain to them about the difference between the boxer and the TS engine.
Petrol consumption, maintenance cost, parts pricing....letih!
My previous 146 was not really taken care that well by the previous
owner. The engine gave diesel like sound after starting the car but this
is not apparent when the engine is already warmed up. Not that it was
such a big problem but looking back, I believe an indication the previous
owner did not change the engine oil at the proper interval. Consider that
my current 156 TS has clocked 100K KM but still sound healthy.
For 1.6 manual, I don't consider it difficult to maintain but the air
cond can be quite annoying. Fuse got blown so easily. So you may want to
stock up several fuses, just in case. Apart from that, no big problem.
Try to avoid those without ABS. My 146 nearly rolled over a suicidal Mat
Rempit and almost hit the barrier - the latter of course would be a
nightmare.

Better go for 146 TI, 2.0 Twin Spark, more power.
I just use 146 1.7 boxer,less power but when on the highway...160km/j
still confortable and steady. That's make Gen 2 always want to test power
with 146.
Once alfa...always alfa.

On the highways, you don't really need to depress the accelerator much to
overtake cars. 140km/h to 160km/h is cruise speed on the highway so you
need to lift your foot of the pedal to slow down to 110km/h every now
(provided you wanna drive at the allowed speed) which can get pretty
irritating. The car hits 220km/h pretty easy as well.

as a salesman too.
in my experience,
both 155 and 146 suffer from same problems. usually faulty aircond
system, engine overheat, brake judder, even though electrics work well.
clutch pump failure is common too.
best 146 to buy - 146ti, esepcially the 1st batch with electric sunroof
and twin airbags. 146 1.8 TS is good too, producing 140bhp as to 146's
150bhp.
avoid 146 boxer engine as timing belt need change often, about 30,000km.
but they are all nice to drive, the 146 1.6 can even reach 200kmh.
sumthing hard for Waja and gen2 1.6 to hit.
146 has good manouvrebility, 155 superior high speed stability.

I still have 146 1.7 boxer. So better I change to 146 2.0 TI or 146 1.6 TS?
I really like 146 but with budget below RM25K.
