Well, this is always a hot topic... whatever commented is correct before... but let me put in what i know so far...

1. When car manufacturer recommended 6 or 12 months or 10k or 15k oci, so long the oil spec meet the car maker requirements the oil shall remains OK within the requiremnet.

2. Now on the lube company.. in order for them to provide certain warranty to the car maker, not only those oil need to meet the oil spec but most often, it was tested beyond the requirements mileage and they need to have some buffer in there.

3. How you drive... conditions you drive and how long you intend to keep the car is all the questions you need to answer before a straight answer. Therefore... as a rule of thumb... follow car maker recommend3d oci loh...

Cheers

You ask oil company, they also ask you to follow car manufacturer recommended OCI.... smile_tongue.gif

Just to stress that oil manufacturer also do not commit themselves, so they ask to follow car manufacturer recommendation.
Even before over some already do what they want. Like some friends, SC OCI is 10k km, they go outside change at 5k km then at 10k km go to change at SC. Some don't bother going back to SC to service at all, they prefer do outside.... smile_tongue.gif

i got a question to ask.. but sure should i posted in this topic..

each time we service our car, generally the next service would be either 3 mths or 5,000 km, 6mth or 10k km depend on the grade of oil used.

recently i got a argument and asked me to prove how we relate 5,000 km would be genrally equal to 3 mth of driving period.

hope any sifu can give some advice.

As far as I know is not related. It is just concluded by car service center that you change the oil at 5k km interval or 3 months. I think they want customer to do that so can get business and their point is if you do not do it will void their warranty.

I use SS in one of my car and FS in another and I change at 5k km or 6 months which even comes first
