I am going to purchase a new car for my wife. The recently released Honda City are in our consideration, but have heard of the following negative comments about previous generations of Honda City:-
a) gearbox problems
car is not stable during highway travelling (above 100 km/hr)
Can i just get your opinions whether these are fair comments or perhaps a case of issues being blown out of proportion?

this gen = new cvt + torque converter (lot of improvement). even the big car (like Accord in US) is using this CVT gearbox
previous gen = normal AT
another older gen = cvt (this is problematic. you are referring to this)
most A/B segment cars are not designed to be driven fast
but people will whack it hard. how often you see myvi or viva cutting the lanes while driving fast; a lot right?
don't worry, this gen of city have better chassis design. just test drive and hit 120 km/h

this car excellent. i test drove it for 3 days, its quieter than the predecessor.
tried googling gearbox issues, returned nothing, should be decently reliable. also, this car has a new gearbox.

The City is a solid car. There are some good choices in the B segment these days.
I'm not vouching for the Attrage/Mirage but Mitsu are having a promo at the moment. That fuel economy is amazing but what it's like to drive, I don't know: http://paultan.org/2...eals-promotion/

On paper looks good, but does feel a bit overpriced, considering it is a 1.2 liter engine

thanks roocarroll, i will put attrage into consideration, for the sake of comparing, perhaps might yield unexpected results.
I realise that prices include push start button, maybe that's how mitsubishi justifies the price

I don't want to bang the Mitsu drum here but these days it's more important to look at output than cc. Ford's 1.0l ecoboost engine can produce around 150hp, roughly the same as my 2.2 Ranger.
I used to drive a 1.6 Waja with around 100hp. The Attrage/Mirage's 1.2 produces around 80hp. It's not a lot but it's probably enough for a small car.
I found out today that Mitsu's discounts on the Attrage/Mirage are for 2013 models so that's also worth taking into consideration.

There are some interesting cars in the B segment these days including two hybrids and the more 'sporty' Swift and Fiesta. My brother-in-law got a decent discount on the hybrid Jazz but it's pretty empty inside and the Attrage/Mirage gets better fuel economy so I'm not sure it's the best choice but it might be the biggest in the segment.
In comparison to the hybrid Jazz and the Suprima S, Paul Tan liked the Vios but they should have had more cars in that comparison.

attrage chassis is bad; and you have concern that car is 'unstable' when driving fast, right?
new city have better chassis design than attrage
