Hyundai i30 hatchback arrives in M’sia – RM128k-133k

Firstly, this is a Korean car, there is nothing wrong with a Korean car but the pricing is the issue.

It costs 10k more than a Ford Focus. with RM133k, you can get a Focus Titanium Plus

Focus comes with:
-xenons
- City safety
- 2.0 liter engine
- Park Assists
- blind spot monitor

To me, the pricing of this car should've been around 100k to 120k (110k for the 1.6l and 120k for the 1.8l)

what are you guys thoughts on this?

I would said, good try for the HS. If they have indeed make a good product to compete and DARE to place them self higher than the competitor in term of price, then, let the market decide for their future... After all, if the strategy dont work for them, you will be getting big discount along the way... tongue.gif

The new i30 was designed and engineered at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany.

It is produced in Europe at the company's manufacturing facility in Nošovice, Czech Republic.

Ok, but have you check what is the selling price of i30 in Europe ? are they price position higher than those car models that their targeted ?

And yes, Malaysia tax make i30 pricing look like gila...but why still authorized dealer still wanted to try their luck by knowing their can't sell this model well with this gila pricing.

i30 gives 150ps & 178Nm is RM124k
polo 105ps & 175Nm is RM114k
altis 1.8 139ps & 173Nm is RM110k
altis 2.0 145ps & 187Nm is RM119k(no vsc) 132k(with vsc)
civic 1.8 141ps & 174Nm RM112k
civic 2.0s 155ps & 190Nm RM128k
jetta 160ps & 240Nm is Rm151k

there's no exact apple to apple comparison because specs and features are not the same.

if the dealers dont try their luck and bring the cars in, we will all end up driving proton, perodua, toyota and honda sahaja.

there must be a reason why the i30 was voted Carbuyer UK3 2012 Car of the Year. so dont knock the i30 until u've tried it. if u want a test drive/brochure/spec sheet, let me know. i am not shy to tell u i sell hyundai in glenmarie. i've tried the car, and i love it (not just because i am selling it). it was built in europe. feels like a conti, drives like a conti, just not badged as a conti. i sold citroen for 2 years, so i have driven conti (just in case u dont believe me. hehe)

if i were to compare european pricing to local pricing, Mini probably takes the cake.
mini cooper 120hp 15,200 pounds but RM146k here
hyundai i30 150hp 14,910 pounds but RM124k here

admit it, we dont complain when it's "branded" to our personal liking. it's like paying good money for Nike or IPad even when it's Made in China, but say Huawei and we probably think a million times even though it's actually good smile_tongue.gif

SD is a customer oriented business unlike some other companies that i shall not mention.
after sales rarely got issue. parts also no problem.

i bought my fiesta knowing got gearbox/clutch problem... when it happened, SD settled it within 3 days.

i would rather buy a car for this type of peace of mind than buy a "branded" car that will end up sitting in the workshop for months just waiting for parts to come, or until owners demonstrate in front of their HQ, if u know what i mean smile_tongue.gif

No comparisons to the Focus?

170ps & 202Nm @RM113,773?

I dont think this car has a lot of reliability issues. i have driven it, it handles really well. it has 5 years warranty and 3 years free service. And it is also by SD

i am not saying that the i30 is not a good car, i am saying it is over priced.

SD should've studied the market better. because price point, they are very high when the competitors are many (some cheaper)

I will test drive the i30, but i highly doubt it will handle better than the Focus. Kit count, the focus will walk up and down the i30.

also, the Altis has more specs at smidge more at RM139k. LED headlamps, touchscreen, leather seats
you mentioned brand power, if SD knows that Malaysians are brand snobs, even more so they should price it better.

why do you think "Li Ning" shoes are cheaper than "Nike"?
or "Ralph Lauren" polo is more expensive than "quiksilver"?
