The area where the brakes pads are in contact will always shine after use. Due to the whole disc being cast iron it rust on contact with water. I know of some who spray high temperature paint on it (disc area near the rims)

In another situation, on showcars used for launch event purposes, the car is stationary and cant be moved. Probably slightly elevated. The corroded discs are an eyesore, and products such as the one from SONAX can be used in such a situation to produce a gleaming surface instantly.
