It's common knowledge within the detailing industry that "coatings" are not 100% problem-free, and many types of coatings could even be problematic on Msian paintwork within the Msian climate. Due to my line of work, I continually test a wide variety of coatings, waxes and sealants over a very long period on all kinds of vehicles (no, I'm not a seller or importer) and based purely on my experimentation, experience and feedback from enthusiast customers, I have my own views on these coatings.
A Passat CC's owner was pissed off, and prompted me to write about his experience on my blog.
Perhaps it'll be interesting reading for many enthusiasts here, although I must stress that I'm not praising or making any recommendations.

Yah very common problem that people have with coatings in general. Personally I think the WM problem is more pronounced on coatings is because like many people say its "very dry....... the coating" after 1 or 2 car washes or rain showers that is when the WM problem usually will start, when the "slick oil" has been removed from the coating. Personally like I said coating is just another layer of insurance its not an excuse to be lazy. But this seems more palatable if you DIY the coating as the cost is much much lower.
So from a DIY perspective, a good quartz based coating (many to choose from) with wax, or syn spray wax works well. You get the best of both worlds.
I still think there is a market for coatings especially for DIY, you just need to know which ones to get and you still need to maintain the coating.
But there are other advantages to having coatings. Like I really like OC 2.0 for its bug release properties as it only requires normal car wash to remove bugs from bumpers. When no other sealant/wax would have such good release properties. But OC2.0 does have its own problems.
So basically to be fair there is a place for all products, just have to choose wisely, or spend money trying.
My 2cents is from the other side of the coin which is DIY, thus it would be different from a regular end user.

Coating marketing is strong so able to convince many consumers but not detailing enthusiasts.....
