I just got to know that Sime Darby will be bringing in the 1.0 Ecoboost engine to the upcoming Fiesta model.

Will the Focus be getting some of the Ecoboost engine variants in the near future, say next year? I just did a quick research on the internet and it appears that there are some Focus models that run on 1.0 and 1.6 Ecoboost engines now.

Any information would be appreciated.

I wish for an ecoboost too, but if you think about it objectively, there isn't much incentive for Ford to bring in the ecoboost for the Focus. That will just bring up the price by at least RM10k-20k. Question is how many people are willing to fork out RM140k or above for a C-Segment Ford? The enthusiasts maybe, but not the masses for sure.

Actually, the Fiesta facelift will come first with the 1.5 litre NA engine. 1.0 Ecoboost will only come in Q1 next year at a projected price of RM90k onwards.

My bet is that the Ecoboost Focus will make its way here sooner rather than later. Only then will I consider the Focus smile_approve.gif I am hoping that the price will be slightly higher than the NA models.

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, it is a pertinent point that the Ecoboost models will cost quite a bit more than the standard Focus models that we have right now, especially the 1.6 Ecoboost. However, price-wise I think the 1.0 Ecoboost will be quite close to the current 2.0-litre models, if not slightly lower. I suspect the upcoming Focus will get the 1.0 Ecoboost instead of the 1.6 Ecoboost engine in keeping prices down.

If the Focus really gets a 1.0 Ecoboost 3-cylinder engine over here next year, I am not too sure how the performance would be. As good as the reviews get (no tangible difference in driving performance between the 1.0 3-cylinder Ecoboost engine and the standard 4-cylinder 1.6 or 2.0 engines), I don't know how the smaller cylinder Ecoboost engine will perform in areas of NVH in all driving conditions. Will the sound of the engine be noticebly loud when stressed or when on highway speeds up to 170km/h. On paper it does look good. In real life guess a test-drive will clear all doubts.

It is difficult to imagine that the same 1.0 Ecoboost engine that the smaller and lighter Fiesta will be getting may also be used in the Focus.

Any idea if the Focus Ecoboost models do get launched over here in Malaysia next year, will they sport the same Powershift automatic transmission? (I read that the Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost only comes in manual transmission) Also, will both Titanium sedan and Sport hatchback models get the Ecoboost engines, or only the Sport hatchback will get it? I only favour automatic gear transmission and the sedan model.

Any information and thoughts would be appreciated.

I think ppl need to try the ecoboost before condemning. I had a 1.4tsi twincharge b4, and the 1.6 ecoboost is a far superior engine.

completely silent at low revs, nice and preppy higher up. driving style has alot to do with it being harsh, i find ppl tend to rev hard to get power up, instead of conserving momentum and driving smoothly

Yes, Ecoboost engine max torque kick in at pretty low RPM, hence no need to rev high to get the sensational pulling power smile_thumbup.gif

Any idea roughly when we will see an Ecoboost Focus over here in Malaysia, and if it is available, will it be a 1.0 or 1.6 Ecoboost engine for the Focus?

My only 1.6 ecoboost experience is on the Kuga. It is harsh when you floor the pedal and the engine sound intrudes to the cabin. But when I did the same on the 1.4 TSI, I just get a sweet sounding rev, much better. Even the Vtec sounds better when floored.

Not sure why you guys talk about gentle acceleration. Most cars will not be harsh on gentle acceleration, hence not much to compare with. It's only when you floor it that you notice the difference.

am not sure abt 1.6 Ecoboost, yet to test it out (but will do so soon), am referring to the 2.0 Ecoboost, and when u floor it it definitely not harsh.....in fact the sound is nice as it come with Sound Symposer smile_thumbup.gif
