I have a 2002 Altis 1.6A. Bought new. Very reliable. 168,000 km and still going strong. Maintenance cost is minimal. Many parts stockist around. A very good family car but forget about performance.

Mine a 2004 1.6 model. Very very reliable and cheap to maintain car....

You need to ensure your target is not a lemon or neglected car from the current owner.

Any particular reason why 2003 model? 1.6 or 1.8? I have no reason not to like my 2006 altis 1.8.
The car has been super reliable and never miss a beat. Ownership experience has been great so
far. Its truly a car for all walks of life. Other cars may come and go but this car just soldiers on. No
regrets.

Toyota Motor Corporation and UMW Toyota Motor are recalling around 18,700 units of 2000-2003 made Toyota Corolla Altis and Toyota Camry. This is to rectify the issue of a defective passenger side front airbag inflator which may cause abnormal deployment or rupture during a crash.

There is no reported case of such problem in Malaysia yet, but UMW Toyota Motor will carry out corrective action at no cost on the owners. However, the timing for this recall is rarely seen, as cars of this age will be hitting the used car market, and airbag is said to expire around 10 years.

Please share this news around to your friends and family. Both models are very popular a decade ago and I'm sure it can be easily found in someone's parking garage.

i love my W108 and Today is very important for us to maintenance our cars but i am happy for mbzparts.com workshop who solve my all problems........

I called UMW Toyota to to fix an appointment to rectify the alleged airbag problem. They called me back later to inform that my car is not affected even though mine is a 2002 model. smile_question.gif

UMW Toyota notify me officially on the recall. My car is affected after all. It is the passenger side airbag.

My wife send the car in this morning to fix. Took about three hours. No charge whatsoever. smile.gif

a 10 yrs old Corolla Altis can be considered a good purchase. for normal use the 1.6 is more than enough but i strongly recommend the 1.8G as you will enjoy better acceleration, on some level better fuel economy and has better specs like Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and 3 colour optitron meter.

both has same VVTI engine with timing chain and 4 speed auto transmission that is reliable and long lasting, all disc brakes and that spacious cabin and boot.

this is one reason it is holding its value rather better than a Volvo S60 of the sameg age which packs more technologies and better to drive.

After 11 years and 173k mileage the rear wheel bearing finally kaput. Tahan lasak. smile_big.gif

Changed for both sides. Including labour, the total cost is slightly more than RM1000.

This is what it looks like. It comes complete with wheel hub and ABS sensor. That's why it costs so much.
