As long as the oil is petrol rated like SL / SM and latest SN

You should spend some time reading your car owner manual. Fast forward it to the engine spec page and you will have your answer. Some cars require tougher oil standard, which can't be met with your run of the mill API SM or SN, for e.g BMW has LL and VW has its VW50x.
Since you said your car is new and ran only for about 1k kms, just stick to what SC has to offer. At least you are safe in terms of warranty coverage.

This is not correct.
Much got to do with marketing gimmick from the Gwei-Lo who still think we are like monkey living on trees..!!!

BMW LL-01 and LL-04 and VW50X series are available from Shell and Castrol. I think Castrol would have more choices.
