Just wondering...Malaysia is basically a sedan/saloon oriented market, judging by the success of GTi in Malaysia, how come VW doesn't bring in this GLi. As much as I would love to get the GTi, I just can't fit in family of five and luggage. The GLi would be a more practical and desireable option. The black GLi with 18 in wheels looks just as stunning and mean. Power and handling are not far off the GTi too. Or I could just get the standard black Jetta TSi, slap on GLi grille, 18 inchers and DRL headlamps.

I get what you mean. As a family man, you need the luggage space but you also want that poowaa once in a while. So you want a Jetta with 2.0TSI engine with 6-speed wet DSG. If you don't mind a different skin, you may want to take a look at the Skoda Octavia VRS (or called RS in Msia). Though it may not look as good as the Jetta, it has a Passat-size boot and is on cheap offer right now as well.

Same here. Fortunately I am one of the few owners in Malaysia that is driving a VW Bora first hand till today. Insuring this car is challenge because it does not appear in the bank car database. When I was driving this car those days, people hardly give a second look and immediately associate with Made in China Taxi. Now that VW Malaysia is bring more models. I am 100% sure, they will not bring in the 2.0T jetta GLI because the Jetta branding is still not there. In general the 2.0T jetta will cost more than the 2.0T golf GTI. Hence a lot of buyer will shy away because of resale value and blah...blah...

I was expecting the GLi to cost less than the GTi as the jetta TSi is cheaper than the golf TSi. Anyway, you're right. I'm just expecting too much here. Since the days of GTI mkV, the GLi never made it here and looks like its going to stay that way. Skoda Octavia RS seemed like a good alternative but not ready to jump into the skoda bandwagon yet. Will patiently wait for a suitable Q car.

Putting a GLi here will jeapordize the Passat, Passat CC, Audi A4 in the process ... not really worth it since Gti and Passat is selling so well.

The GLi shouldn't effect the likes of A4, 3 series, CC, C class etc. as those cars cater for the more premium market. The GLi is basically a poor's man speed salon that can bite. I like its subdued and unassuming looks.

I mention this before and people in VW Malaysia decide in their opinion which model to bring into Malaysia. The volume is an important factor to justify to the German whether you can bring that particular model. That is what VW Malaysia folks always say.
Take for example, VW malaysia is willing to bring a Bettle 1.2TSI and Bettle 2.0T. Knowing very well Bettle 2.0T will only sell few units. Also they bring it. Just think for moment...Conclusion is that there is no such thing VW malaysia can't bring in. Is whether they want to bring a particular model in. It just a tick of the order form. Pay money in Euro and get into Malaysia.
