Interesting to hear that from a VW SA. And after some searching from google, it is an official thing about all diesel car with DPF fitted. May be should think twice before buying a diesel engine car. It might not save $$$ after all.

My friend removed the dpf from his Ssangyong. He will be contributing to the worsening pollution, no doubt.

I am fine. Just sharing this story as I was amazed on how truthful is SA in down under.
As I entered a VW showroom here and admiring a TDi top spec Tiguan, a SA greeted me and then tell me upfront TDi is not for me if I do a lot of start stop and drive in urban area only with short distance.
He just said they cannot remove DPF as it is against Australia law, and also bad for the environment.
So he propose me to take the TSi Tiguan instead.
Interesting experience.
Life is short. Seize the day!
