hi. does anyone know or have experience about removing the in-built
catalytic converter that is installed in the new ranger auto but is not
installed in previous rangers? reliable sources tell me that it can
safely be reoved without affecting the warranty and will give the auto a
much needed 10% power boost. thanks.

It is bad for the environment and your health! There is a reason why all
new cars are fitted with catalytic converters, even though you don't
appreciate them! What is the point of having 10% more power if it is going
to kill you in the long run?

as long as there is no censor after the cat , you can safely remove the
cat. don;t worry about the envir ... compare to the big factory, you are
nothing.

ssho, it does NOT have more power than the previous model. i know. i
owned the first xlt in 1999, then an Extreme 8 months ago and now an
auto. the auto has higher published bhp figures but lower published
torque figures. add an auto and the pickup suffers. add a catalytic
converter and it's even worse. to those who are worried about the
environ, have you seen some of our busses & lorries. in any case, the
ranger without a cat still smokes less than a storm

Well, keep the cat, you'll get the respect. (me didn't say that, Ford
advertisement mah, even hogging the road nobody will complain)
And yes, the lorries, factories are the main culprit, but by removing the
cat, regardless of how little is the 'contribution', you are part of them.
And you children will suffer.
Cheers !

plal,
Power is power, torque is torque. That is why the manufacturer gives you
figures for power, and for torque.
Earlier poster talked about power.
Power on new Ranger is Up. (+4PS)
Torque is Down. (-18PS)
Acceleration (pick-up) is Down (auto plus cat).
Pollution is down.
If you're interested to know why power can go up when the cat robs so much
torque, the secret's in the fuel pump.
