The engine technology is making great strides. Now packing the same HP with less CC.
Can't be sure, but one of the ways this is achieved is with direct injection? If so then there may be problems in the long run.
not really...early system of direct injection main weakness it to keep the injector sealed properly to withstand compression pressure....
but with modern technology that wasn't a problem anymore...
in fact with direct injection even n/a engine benefits with no pre-ignition/knocking problems arise compared to old method of port injection...because the piston only compress air without fuel (fuel injected later and directly after compression was done)

problem i see is the cost of the injector !!

and direct injection system are also to cause too much carbon built up in combusion chamber with too much stop/go traffic...

Hmm, A peugeot 1.6 turbo uses more fuel in the jam, than a Civic 2.0..
In the city, its hard for the prince engine to get below 11l/100km while civic 2.0 engine can get 9.4l/100km easily

this is typical problem of force induction engine to run rich to protect the engine ..

maybe right .. after test 508T ..find out ..at highway ..is really save fuel ..when I run 120km/h ..it use 6th gear ..engine only run 1.2k rpm ... not like normal car have reach 3k rpm...
Waw ..then the new WW Golf 7 ... got 7 gears ... lagi low??

Light turbo?
I test drove the Exora Bold last year. I asked what a 'light turbo' was. The SA admitted that it wasn't really a turbo, they just tuned the engine to get more HP.

Not necessary as 7 gears maybe closer ratio only, not more overdrive....

That is why light turbo....

are you sure, 508T runs 120km/h at 1.2krpm
my VW touran runs 110km at 2k rpm------- 7th gear.

7 gears could be closer ratio only. Mine 4 gear auto doing 110kph at around 2k rpm also, but drop to 3rd gear is like 5th to 3rd on manual....
