I saw the trend of car going to low cc with light turbo ...
It is really help on saving $$$??
According to sales. Yes, b'cos pay low cc road tax and car service fees.
Like Peugeot ..almost all range is 1.6 + turbo = non turbo 2.0cc car.
I wonder how about the fuel usage & durability of engine??

Smaller cc , burn less fuel, especially when idle and stuck in traffic jam. Same comparison like kancil engine and ferrari stuck in city centre jam, kancil will burn less fuel. Both also same speed/performance... 5km/h in the jam.
But when in highway, the turbo will help on pickup and some speed, but definitely still can't 100% compare/beat proper displacement engine. But at least, it helps about 50-80%
Engine durability, should be alright, based on latest or last 10 years technology (generally), if compared to some others still using 20-30 years engine.
Europe is moving towards smaller cc with turbo , e.g. the latest Ford 3-cyclinder 1L engine.
Japan still mainly on N/A engine.

The engine technology is making great strides. Now packing the same HP with less CC.
Can't be sure, but one of the ways this is achieved is with direct injection? If so then there may be problems in the long run.
