of Autocar ASEAN (it`s the cover story). Engine is apparently sourced
from the Mazda 6.
RM139K - including leather seats, two more (side) airbags, sunroof,
aluminium dashboard fittings and skid plates front and rear - but without
the rear spoiler and running boards. Pretty good deal, methinks - just a
pity it`s not the facelifted model as is currently being sold in the USA.

Renesis,
We used to get Japanesse Escape, so possibility to get Taiwanesse version
is very low. Somemore, 2.3L Escape is now CBU from the Phillipine, which
Ford found it to be more price compatative than CKD from Japan. I guess
Ford make it in bulk in Phillipine for SEA market.

Why would you expect the US or Taiwanese ones? they are both left hand
drive markets, Malaysia is Right hand drive. At 139k its the only SUV
with sunroof, 4 airbags and leather

Power - the 2.3L engine does deliver. Pickup and response where good. The
auto transmission is smooth. Most of the time you don't really feel the
gear change.
Steering – is much lighter then my current car (Honda CRV) but still have
a good feel in higher speed.
Gear shift - much lighter then my current car which I particularly like.
It’s so easy to change gears if need to.
The ride – to me it’s not as good as the CRV. I guess the suspensions are
harder or the tyres are over inflated. The test drive seems a little
bumpy. The SA explanation is that the leather seats need to be season in
and then you’ll get a softer ride. When taking corners, I felt that the
body roll is quite noticeable but the car don’t feel like it’s “stepping
out” while my car have less body roll but don’t have that stable feeling
of the Escape.
Forget to try the 4X4 mode but I guess if I engage it, there is no real
place to test it in PJ. We took it up to Gasing Hills and around PJ
before going back to the showroom.
Overall, for that price I quite satisfied with it. Well the wife is
pretty impress with it, so guess we’ll are going to be a owner of the
brand new Ford Escape.
