Nearly time for the pumps for the second time 1 week after getting the
Escape 2.3L. Just to share, I managed approx. 420km for RM 80 the 1st time
round. Largely mixed driving. Hmm, FC better improve a bit or I won't be
escaping a lot....! Other than that, everything's great esp. the
acceleration.

BTW, everyone seems to honk me in traffic & roundabouts even when I'm
really not too close to anyone. Must be worried of the size I guess but it
gets to be a bit annoying. Was driving a smaller hatch b4 this and never
had this problem.

Agree with Ashabmy!! Maybe they're afraid you'll hit them.... Anyway, to
get back to the bit on the Adaptive gearbox, the Escape Owners Manual
states on Pg 110 :
"Driving with an automatic overdrive transaxle
Your automatic transaxle electronically controls the shift feel by using an
adaptive learning strategy. The feature is designed to optimize shift
smoothness."
Denis Wong, the new Editor for ASEAN Autocar in his September 2004 'Driving
Impressions' of the 2.3, says "The transmission - of the adaptive variety -
still hunts a little..."
Don't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers but someone has their facts a little
off. The thing is, the online manual of the Escape (US Version) has
descriptions of both the 3.0 and 2.0, so it might be the same with the
local 2.3 and 3.0! If that's the case, the manual should indicate this.
As for the fuel consumption, I've done 7.3 and 7.9km/l on two 'full' runs.
The first included a trip to KLIA and back with the remaining being city
driving. The second had me doing PJ to Kuantan with the remaining being
town driving (in Kuantan). Never exceeded 130km/h! Averaged 100km/h for
much of my driving. Petrol is *obil Regular. I'll try F1 for the next
several fill-ups.
Will be heading off to Kuantan again tomorrow morning at around 0430hrs to
be there by 0800hrs. May not be able to access the nt much once there. Take
care, all.

Thanks for the feedback secondbest. 7.3-7.9 seems a bit on the high side.
I think the FC will perform better after a few K. I benchmarked the 1997
Accord 2.2 Vtech highway FC is about 11+ km/L, thats slightly better than
2.3L escape and sound about right if Escape can get 10 km/L with heavier
body. Will post FC when I got my car hopefully this week. Happy Scaping.

Hi all,
Got my aligment problems "fixed" at Ford Concessionaires PJ. Many thanks
for the suggestion, input and help offer (esp. Jwrx)
You can read the thread at MTM on the given hyperlink below.
Jwrx,
Another brief question to ask of you - can I directly bring my car for
tinting at V-kool Malaysia HQ at PJ? Will this void the vechicle's
warranty?
My dealer promoted their "own" tinting package (at their
selected/"authorised" shops) but somehow, I'm not confident/convinced of
their product/service offerings...so I rejected it outright.
I called up Ford M'sia (toll-free 3673 / 3181) to enquire further about
this...and the response I had gotten is that Ford does not recommend such
practice (tinting) since this will bring warranty problems should any
defect(s) happen. Their advice is to keep things stock in order not to
complicate warranty claims should any forseen incident(s) happen in the
future.
May I know what is the "official" stand of Ford M'sia on this? Are there
any regulations/policies that govern such practice?
I don't wish to be caught in a grey area.
