To answer ur question:-
i. Pickup consider commercial vehicle so duty free, save easily 70% duty. Do check out price of Triton Sport compares, Triton pickup, Ford Ranger compares Fort Everest, Toyota Hilux cp Fortuna ... why SUV so much expensive compares pickup though some having same or similar engine?? Go ask blood sucking gomen lah.

ii. Diesel engine more fuel efficient than petrol, apple to apple easily >20% more. My previous Satria town use ~12.5km/l. My Dmax which is >1 ton >13km/l town use. If Satria with diesel engine easily >20km/l. This is what many European manufacturers are heading with Euro 4 fuel. Again ask blood ###### what still Euro 2 diesel fuel.

iii. Too many harrassers esp on the highway, pickup comes in handy cut down road bully flashing high beam as if grandpa road. But again, don't bully other as don't want other bully you

iv. Potholes, floods ... common problems in Klang Valley concrete jungle

1. It's my dream to own one since I was a kid,
2. Good fuel consumption (This is not my main criteria for choosing 4x4),
3. I Love outdoor activities, so 4x4 pick-up is the only solution,
4. I Love its 'Go Anywhere Lifestyles'
5. I feel safe from some sort of road bullies.
Although I enjoyed driving my pick-up truck, there are times when I can easily get bored while driving b'cause :-
- they are just too slow,
- people may think that you're an old folk, contractor,
- etc, etc ....

Ya man, most of us are outdoor man, fishing, hunting, jungle tracking or sometimes pretend to be 1 in city jungle

Siok when see mud splashed all over the trunk. No too siok if got stuck in the mud lah

Yup, acceleration/overtaking really lacking, wonder why the call pickup, cannot really pickup the speed when overtaking. Tat's why those mother of all roads aka Alphad flashing headlight demand you to give way when you are overtaking, they don't know they are dealing with ah pek speed of acceleration, the more you flash, the slower it gets

Just done the major service for the price of $350 in record time of 1/2 hour no que. Own engine oil. Price includes air filter, engine filter, power stearing oil, axial oil, gear oil .. diesel engine usually more robust, lower rpm higher torque to carry heavy staff, 500k no overhaul is achievable.

.. ha..ha,
that's why I hate driving my 4x4 for long journey@highway due to this.
Mine is fitted with MT tyres, spot lights, & sport bar. Although it looks agressive, macho, & cool, but I always get flashed by other fast-moving vehicles.
Even get flashed from speeding kancil, turbo-charged wira, or viva. ..

More & more manufacturers are gearing towards a balance between an on-roader with an off-roader. Fine example is the Navara Nissan which high & flat torque @ moderate RPM. If you look at new Hiux, they are orientated with a sedan type driving type.

Pick-up is NOT for speed-demons.
They're designed primarily as a workhorse to carry goods & services & used mainly at construction sites, rough terrain, & unforgiving environment. You can carry people inside, but with leaf spring configuration, they are not as comfortable as normal sedan.
That's why pick-ups've good low-end tork; which is essential to enable them to crawl, & to carry@moving around with heavy goods at low speeds.
