I had kembara dvvt year 2003...

Maintanance about expensive compare to normal car. As an example, its oxygen sensor(two wire type) hard to get from spare part shop. Original one cost about Rm1111.00. Extra care if it's auto transmission. Change your transmission oil at least every 30, 000 km. Do not forget to take care of Fr Axle, Rr Axle and Transfer oil too because it will give effect to your long shaft gear.

I like its engine. About quiet if you let it idling and using timing chain.

Yeah, quite expensive. Not suitable for everyday usage... The best FC that I can achieve was about 11.5 km/litre@ 8.7 l/100 km or 420 km from full tank until E( 95 % highway@auto)

If you are using as a 2nd car or hobby car, why not... smile_big.gif

If non-DVVT, the FC is still acceptable but if DVVT version, maybe it's either high speed driving that cause high FC (ideal speed is around 100km/h or 3k rpm whichever comes 1st, beyond that FC will start to goes up) or there's parts (such as air filter, spark plug) at the engine bay that already worn out. Also, driving habit and vehicle loading as well as traffic flow condition will greatly determine FC figure.

A well maintained Kembara DVVT with moderate travelling speed and smooth traffic shall able to reach around 14 - 15 km/l on >80% highway

14-15 km/l? Manual or Auto?

I had always maintain speed of 110-120 km/h on highway. 120 equals to 4000 rpm. Another thing is my O2 sensor already 'kong'.... wacko.gif

Be it manual or auto, the difference in FC is not very significant especially on highway although auto generally have higher FC than it's manual siblings.

About travelling 120 km/h with engine speed nearly 4k rpm on top gear, it's because Kembara has short final drive ratio (it's normal for heavy car body with smaller engine with low power/torque output, same goes to Avanza). Try reduce travelling speed to 90 km/h - 100 km/h on highway (maximum 110 km/h) and FC will cut down by about 15% - 25% and replacing faulty O2 sensor will further cut down FC by 10% - 15%.

If mostly driving alone, Kelisa should be enough (but check for engine mounting condition and also shock absorbers). But if you want something bigger (some people don't like a car that is too small), Myvi is the best choice be it used or brand new. If used Myvi, check for brake disc and caliper condition (common issue is warping front disc rotor and lousy calipers, but can be changed to those aftermarket parts).

Kenari, only interior was quite roomy and there's reasonable amount of boot space, but it's dated model and AC cooling performance was crap (even cheapskate Kancil aircond was better than Kenari) as well as poor handling (as expected due to tall body with small size tyres). Also for Aerosport variant, most of it's exhaust muffler giving way after few years that cause the stock exhaust pipe sounds like modified tailpipe.

Vavi Viva, only good for low FC and reasonable interior space, but safety was out (even Kelisa/Kancil door and body was more rigid than Viva)
