I did asked the chop shop before at Mun Lee, Puchong.
Gearbox - RM2K (Need to trade in your old gearbox)
Labour - RM400

Total - RM2.4K

For this gearbox, I did asked other chop shops also and one quoted RM1.8K

Hi.....

May be I am too late to CATCH the problem issue but now I am facing the Gear Box Problem...
Local mechanic at Subang Jaya ( where I stay ) wants a fees of Rm3,300 without even mentioning the so called Trade-in of the Old unit.

Where is the other guy you have checked with for 1.8k cost ....?? Name and Tel please......!

Appreciate your help.....!

I feel sad that local Honda does not even acknowledge this issue.
I looked after my car very well. Yet I had this problem. I spend so much money going to their cut throat SC to ensure i get the genuine oil etc.

But still,

I just sold my car 2 weeks ago.
My cars are all very well looked after. Many friends wanna buy my car but not this City.
The car is excellent otherwise. But with a problem CVT, I cannot sell to any of my friends. they will curse me

I sold it to a used car dealer. He knows there is a problem.
Unless they fix it
The new buyer will curse them

my conclusion, Honda should just quit making their own transmission. Just get those from Aisin who specialise in making transmissions...

time will tell if the CVTs in the following cars can be reliable
Nissan Sylphy
Altis 1.8-2.0, Prius
All new Protons

And Insight! I wonder if they use the same CVT.
Good luck to them!

By the way, i am not those who like to play with the CVT, playing with the manual mode etc...In all this 5 years, I have only "played" with the manual mode about 5 times. I am always careful with my cars.

No more Honda for me for the near future

OMG, this is worst than VW Dry clutch DSG issues, at least VW is acknowleged the issues & have started re-call world wide & in Msia to fix the prob...Bad For You HONDA for sweeping this under the carpet

Fren, this issue has been done to death many years ago lol... Honda had already rectified the issue, replaced the GBs of those affected under warranty and instructed all SCs to use the proper CVT fluid.

I had my City iDSI from 2003 to 2008, clocking 185,000km and had none of the issues associated with the GB, because I changed the fluid at 30,000km or 6mths (whichever came first) intervals religiously.

My MIL who still owns a facelift City VTEC 2005 from Day One, has only 35,000km on the clock today. Last year I drove her car and found that it was exhibiting the symptoms of CVT problem, so I promptly had the GB fluid replaced with genuine CVTF. Fixed the problem instantly. I suspect that because of her car's extremely low mileage, her regular mechanic failed to inform her to get the CVTF changed.

For those who think CVT is problematic and expensive to repair, consider the fact that for a quality refurb of a regular autobox, it will also set you back a couple of thousands, so why don't we hear them complaining? Wear and tear is normal, and since 2k plus is all you need to set the car straight, just be thankful and enjoy the smooth drive of your CVT loh.

There are no lousy cars. Only better cars.

I'm using City 2007 & sell it off 2011. The sales man told me that due to the hot weather in malaysia, GB oil need to replace either 20k km or 1 year.

When I sell it off & changed to another car, another sales man also told me the same story.
