i also find their adverts that say, the people's car/mpv/suv is german. that i find very very distasteful and makes me angry.
it makes people who dont buy it or people who have other brands feel like their purchase is a wrong choice.
the intent of that advert is to make us envy in getting the VW car. but it makes me HATE more than anything else to buy a VW car.

So what, its probably better than their other choices. Also its selling for less than RM140K in the UK. Blame our import & excise duties if you want.

A Wish 1.8 MY 2007 selling for RM115K to RM118K. Ok or not simply because it is Toyota ? A friend bought a Toyota Alphard 2.4 MY 2009 for RM225K. Ok or not ? Need to touch up here and there. I was like, purrr. May be simply it is a Toyota, ppl will just buy ? Estima Aeras selling at RM170K to RM180K too. BTW, only one month warranty wor. Cheap compares to a brand new VW Sharan or Ford S Max for that matter. Cheers.

I think the issue is more to do with the marketing message rather than the pricing strategy. Knowing that different countries have difference duties and taxes, adopting the same marketing message would be extremely dumb of them (which is not the case as UK's VW model tag lines are different from ours)
The implication of lack of financial ability and (worse still) insinuation of poor decision making and/or lack of importance placed on family members falls squarely on the local team. A quick check on the main Malaysia VW site of the Cross Touran (sorry, we are discussing about interpretation of marketing messages on a model that's not related to the topic at hand) shows the tag line "Unconventional Performance" which sounds a whole lot better than this message:

I wonder how does the legal team of VAG Malaysia work in allowing a completely different message be projected at their dealerships.
Might be the perception of cheaper Japanese parts compared to contis?

If only ppl start to ditch those ideas and buy Continental cars, am sure pricing of parts will reduce accordingly as well. I changed my Toyota Altis front set of brake pads for RM443. Made In Thailand some more. Cheap ? I was grumbling at UMW that time when SA told me the price.

Agree! Toyota/Honda parts are actually quite pricey for some items. My other half used to drive a Vios & thank god it was a company car!

Perception, bro. Does not mean in reality that is the case. In fact, even if the conti part is 30% more expensive but it can last more than double the lifespan of an equivalent Japanese part, how is that expensive? Alas, many people only see the dollar and cents but don't consider the durability. People don't know how to differentiate between price and cost of a product
